1st Meeting on Translation, May 25 (Athens)

Orco, together with the translation agencies Commit and Litterae as well as the meta|φραση School of Translation Studies are pleased to announce the launching of their common initiative for the promotion of Translation in Greece. Among else, this initiative aims at bringing together members of the Greek translators’ community, creating a forum for sharing experiences and exchanging views between the country’s translation agencies and educators to promote business ideas and strategies and consolidate best business practices and quality standards in the market.
 
In the context of this initiative, we are delighted to announce the 1st Meeting on Translation. The general title of this meeting is “From the EU to Accreditation: Aspects of the Translator’s Profession” and it will take place in the Aithousa Logou (Αίθουσα Λόγου) of the Stoa Bibliou (Pesmazoglou 5 & Stadiou). The meeting’s program is the following:
 
6:30 – 6:45 Inaugural address and presentation of the initiative by Vasilis Babouris (Director of Studies, meta|φραση School).
6:45 – 7:45 “The Translator’s Profession in the European Union” – Speech by the translator & author Nikos Sarantakos.
7:45 – 9:00 Discussion: “Translation and Accreditation: Strange bedfellows?”
 
The discussion will start with three brief presentations:

  • “Formal and Informal Accreditation for Professional Translators”, by Constantina Triantafyllopoulou (Director of Studies, meta|φραση School).
  • “Optimizing training in Translation in a Multilingual Europe”, by Penny Marinou (Co-Owner, Litterae Translation Agency)
  • “ΕΝ 15038 and ISO 9001: European standards for translation services”, by Spyros Konidaris (General Manager, Commit Translation Agency)

An open discussion with the audience will follow. 9:00 – 10:00 Wine and discussion in the foyer. We hope that you will honor the event with your presence and we look forward to you joining us, in the hope that, together, we will be able to inaugurate constructive dialogue with the aim of promoting every aspect of the translation process.
